Embraced by blues
Blues. Of Sea and Sky. That’s something I absolutely adore. I was living in Sydney, before moving to Vancouver. And totally spoiled by beautiful mother nature, that Australia has to offer.
Back in 2008, I was having quite a life transition. Moving from Tokyo to Sydney. Giving up my career and life I’ve built in Tokyo. I once thought I had everything I wished to have then realized I had nothing. I was falling, had nothing underneath. So it was a difficult time. However, the beautiful view from my window – BLUES of lavender bay, Sydney harbour and big sky led me to reconnect with photography after a while. I started taking photographs of …literally everything that caught my eyes. Through this process I started to see the lights again and also I realized that the darkness I went through was essential to not miss even the dim lights. I would not dig for details of my personal disaster but all in all – Blues of sea, of sky (even the darkest night sky), healed me by its enchanting embrace.
.
New perspective on photography gave me freedom
Before 2008, I had never used ICM (intentional camera movement) technique. One day I was taking long exposure image of the sea. Then just for fun, I moved my camera. It was just simple panning (which creates same effect as seen in the photograph above) and I LOVED it. Thanks to this coincidence, I began to see something I didn’t before. In addition, I found a way to express my emotions with ICM. In other words – I obtained the freedom to create images, not just “take” them but “create” them. Since then I have been using ICM (but not limited to) to express my world on mute.
Ultimately, Blues embraced me and Photography saved me.
